The plan for the day was to go up to Barnes. As we headed out it was noticed that we had some freezing drizzle coming down. We stopped once a few miles in and decided we would go as far as HY 63, star 131 on the map and 10 miles into the ride and decide what to do. When we stopped the decision was made to double back and head south down trail 31. We were hoping for less moisture and if it got worse we had more choices on getting home quickly than if we had continued north to barnes.
Today's route covered 63.5 miles. The moisture did let up but it was still a nuisance, at least we didn't get soaked. It was a counterclockwise loop with a couple side trips.
The side trips were for food and beverage and of course bathroom breaks.
There is an additional reason for these side trips. On our Sunday ride we picked up a 7th Annual Crazy 8 Tour card. You visit the 8 places get your card stamped and then get a free t-shirt. On our Sunday ride we got 122 and 145 checked off.
On today's ride we got 3 more checked off, 87, 54 and 41, in that order.
Crazy 8 card and map. 5 down 3 to go. we're thinking of going after the last 3 on Saturday.
Now for some pictures from out on the trail and at our stops.
The trails were in fabulous condition. Met the groomer out on the trail. No pic. It was the same one we saw on Sunday when we were at the Wayside Inn.
Crossing Mosquito Brook on trail 31.
At intersection 60 and we'll be headed down this freshly groomed trail. Time to up the pace a bit, just not too much because of the freezing drizzle on the face sheild.
Our first stop of the day. Star 87 on the map. Great friendly place. The bar tender knew everything about current trail conditions and what was going on out on the trails. You can just see her head in the lower right hand corner of the top picture in this group.
Running back thru the woods on trail 3.
Coming out of the woods and onto Squaw Bay on the north end of Chief Lake.
Our second stop of the day. Chief Lake Lodge, star 54 on the map. As far south as we get today. Next stop is Twin Lakes Tavern.
This was our third and last stop of the day, circle 41 on the map and only about 15-20 minutes from home. It definitely was a great day for riding as far as trail conditions but not so great with the nuisance freezing whatever it was. I think the humidity was 100%. You could see the moisture like fog but it seemed to not be falling.
Thanks for looking.
