Wednesday ride after the deep freeze

On Wednesday 2-18-2021 it had finally warmed up after two weeks of very cold weather. It's not much fun riding in sub zero tempertures and we were having lows at night of -30 to -35 below zero. The daytime highs just couldn't seem to make it above zero so we decided to take some time away from sledding. The polar vortex that had gripped us in this extreme cold has finally moved south and is kicking Texas and neighboring states butt.

Yesterday about noon Art and I headed over to Jean and Gibs to head out on what would be a 50 mile ride. The weather was good, mostly overcast and about 15 degrees. The trails were also in pretty good shape but more snow is always welcome. Our route was in a counterclockwise direction.

Today's most excellent route.

Starting up trail 5 from intersection 31.
Trail 8 heading north.

Trail 111 at intersection 23 where we head south on trail 63 towards Seeley. some of the trail follows the old railroad roadbed.
Good running on this section.

Here we are at Seeley, from here we run the old roadbed alongside Hwy 63 down to intersection 12 where we cross the Hwy and pick up trail 8.

Crossing the Namekagon on trail 8/31 just west of Hwy 63. The really cold weather has almost completely froze over the river.

These were taken along trail 8.
Nelson Lake Landing, star 122 on the map.

The KOA camp on Hwy 63 at intersection 8 along trail 77. The campground is all shutdown in the winter.
Crossing the Namekagon River near the KOA campground.
Trail 77. Getting close to home. It was a great day for a ride. We plan to go out again on Friday.
