The first ride of the season was also the first ride of the new year. My friend Art and I who is new to snowmobiling at 70 some years old went out on Sat the 2nd of January to check trail conditions. From what I read online the trails where not in very good condition. What we found was that there were good areas and not so good areas. Overall what we need is a foot or more of snow. As of today Weds the 6th there isn't any in the forecast for the next 7 days, not good. The lakes are in ok shape, but a couple are still not safe enough to be a staked trail.
Our route for today. We covered only 26 miles . It was out and back on trails 14, 5 and 77. Some rocks were popping up in the trail. I stopped and removed the ones that were not froze in. I should of brought a crowbar. Here we are crossing Upper Twin Lake on trail14. There was a bit of a haze with all the moisture in the air. This made the trees look like they had been flocked.
Along trail 5 and stopping at intersection of trail 5 and 77.
This part of trail 77 is nice and wide. It also was in good shape so you could open it up alittle.
This area was recently logged.
In the woods on trail 77.
Headed back home along trail 5.
Don't know if I'll be doing much riding without us getting some much needed snow.
Thanks for looking.
